PHOTOSHOOT IN ITALY. PHOTOSHOOT ABOVE THE CLOUDS

I took this photo with Mauro Benigno and Alexandra on Mount Erice in western Sicily, Italy.

It took about an hour to reach the summit by car. We zigzagged along the road leading to the summit.

The altitude is about 750 m above sea level.

The photoshoot took place in an old castle at the very top of the mountain, above the clouds that constantly drifted over the peak and interrupted the photoshoot. It felt like we were standing in cold milk. Of course, a photoshoot in such conditions was out of the question. We had to wait, and the precious sunset time was running out. But we got the shots we had come all the way for.

Sometimes people ask me why a photographer based on Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam suddenly appears shooting commercial and creative projects in Italy. The answer is simple: photography travels faster than we do. When you work with destination clients, borders disappear — one week it may be a wedding on the beaches of Phu Quoc, the next week a lifestyle or advertising shoot in Sicily.

This particular project on Mount Erice in Italy shows how flexible photography can be. The same skills I use when shooting destination weddings or commercial campaigns on Phu Quoc — finding the right light, catching authentic emotions, balancing elegance with storytelling — apply equally well in Europe. Whether it’s a red scooter climbing an old Sicilian street or a couple walking along the shore in Vietnam, the core idea is the same: every photo should tell a story that feels cinematic and unforgettable.

For me, being a photographer on Phu Quoc does not mean staying only on one island. It means carrying the island’s spirit of freedom, light, and creativity anywhere the work leads — from luxury resorts in Vietnam to historic castles in Italy.

Afterward, I bought a scooter-shaped magnet from Pepe, a local souvenir shop, and we began our descent into the darkness of the night, toward the illuminated town of Trapani, which lies at the foot of the mountain.

Why Italy is perfect for a cinematic photoshoot

Italy has a rare visual quality that makes photography feel richer almost instantly. Even before the first frame is taken, the location is already doing part of the storytelling. Old stone walls, narrow roads, dramatic skies, Mediterranean light, vintage architecture, hilltop views, and small details like a red scooter or a weathered street sign can turn a simple scene into something much more memorable.

That is why a photoshoot in Italy often feels different from an ordinary travel shoot. It is not only about being in a beautiful country. It is about being inside a place that already carries atmosphere. Sicily, in particular, has a very special visual language. It can feel romantic, cinematic, wild, elegant, and slightly nostalgic at the same time. A creative photoshoot in Sicily does not need too much decoration.

The location already gives the frame texture, contrast, and character.

On Mount Erice, that feeling becomes even stronger. There is height, wind, movement in the clouds, and a sense that the weather itself is part of the visual story. Some places give you a background. Others give you tension, mystery, and emotion. That is exactly what makes a destination photoshoot in Italy so exciting. You are not only photographing people. You are photographing them inside a living atmosphere.

A strong destination shoot is more than a beautiful location

Beautiful places help, but they are never enough on their own. A strong photoshoot in Italy still depends on light, timing, styling, movement, and the ability to make the scene feel natural rather than staged. That is the difference between a nice travel snapshot and a gallery that feels polished, emotional, and worth keeping.

For me, destination photography is always about balance. I want the location to be visible and meaningful, but I do not want it to overpower the people in the frame. Whether it is a couple photoshoot in Italy, a creative editorial session in Sicily, or a commercial shoot for a brand, the goal stays the same. The final images should feel elegant and alive. They should carry both the place and the personality.

That is why I enjoy projects like this one so much. A road leading upward, clouds crossing the sunset, the old castle at the top, the feeling of waiting for the right second - all of that becomes part of the final visual rhythm. Sometimes the most memorable photographs appear only after a little patience. The weather changes, the light opens for a moment, and suddenly the scene becomes exactly what you came for.

This is also one of the reasons why I believe destination photography should never feel rushed. The best results usually come when there is time to observe the location, adapt to the conditions, and let the shoot develop naturally. In places like Sicily, that matters even more, because the mood of the landscape can shift very quickly. Sun, haze, wind, shadow, and glowing sunset light may all happen within one short stretch of time. When you work with the place instead of against it, the gallery becomes much stronger.

What clients should know before booking a photoshoot in Italy

If you are planning a photoshoot in Italy, the first thing to remember is that timing matters. Light changes fast, especially in elevated or coastal locations. Early morning and late afternoon usually give the best atmosphere, while sunset often brings the most cinematic tones. Weather matters too. In mountain or hilltop areas, clouds and mist can either ruin the plan or create something far more interesting than the original idea.

A good photographer knows how to adapt.

Styling also plays a big role. Italy works beautifully with simple, refined clothing that moves well and does not fight with the environment. Clean shapes, elegant colors, and relaxed confidence usually work better than anything overly complicated. This is true for couple sessions, honeymoon shoots, personal portraits, creative editorials, and even commercial campaigns.

Another important point is choosing the right mood for the shoot. Not every destination session should look the same. Some clients want a romantic and soft gallery. Others want something bold and cinematic. Some want a natural lifestyle feel, while others want a polished editorial result. Italy can handle all of these directions, which is part of its appeal. That flexibility makes it an excellent location for destination photography.

For couples, a couple photoshoot in Italy can become one of the most meaningful parts of the trip. It is not only a way to get beautiful images. It is a way to keep the feeling of the journey itself. The road, the weather, the silence, the laughter, the unexpected turns, the view from above, the last light before evening - these are the details that make the photographs personal.

From Phu Quoc to Italy and beyond

I am based on Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam, but photography naturally travels. That is one of the things I value most about this work. One project may happen on a tropical beach, another near a luxury resort, and another above the clouds in Sicily. The countries change, the landscapes change, but the core of the work stays the same. I look for light, atmosphere, emotion, and a visual story that feels strong enough to stay with people.

This is why international projects matter to me. They show that photography is not limited by one location. A photographer on Phu Quoc Island can create destination work in Italy with the same attention to detail, the same sense of style, and the same commitment to strong final images. In both places, I want the result to feel intentional rather than random.

If you are looking for a photographer in Italy for a creative shoot, a couple session, a personal portrait, or a destination project with cinematic atmosphere, feel free to contact me. And if your story brings you to Phu Quoc instead, the same approach to light, storytelling, and elegant photography is waiting for you there as well.
