Modern wedding traditions in Ukraine
Nowadays, following fashion, newlyweds increasingly simplify ancient wedding traditions and rituals, and sometimes completely abandon them, driven by the desire to make the wedding ceremony a unique event. In pursuit of innovations, wedding ceremonies on yachts, flying carpets or mobile sofa complexes are becoming increasingly popular.
Which, in general, although royally rich, interesting to the point of indecency, but is far from always a traditional wedding scenario for Ukraine. Of course, I categorically do not advise refusing a wedding ceremony on a yacht, quite the opposite, however, this article is specifically about the traditions of holding a wedding in Ukraine. But holding a wedding on a yacht will be a separate article or even a series of them.
Yes, let's continue about the wedding traditions of Ukraine. Sometimes, some newlyweds are "registered" by dolphins in dolphinariums, some dive with scuba gear, some climb mountains, some arrange outdoor "registrations" at home, in a word, if you have the desire, imagination and a little money, you can create something impressive, although sometimes not quite like a wedding. But, nevertheless, most young couples planning to get married prefer to adhere to the traditional wedding ceremony for Ukraine. As in ancient times, no one abolished the tradition of matchmaking.
True, now it is a slightly different ritual. Here, they no longer give out "pumpkin seeds" to an unsuitable groom, because they only go to propose to the bride who has already agreed to everything. Now the matchmaking ceremony is more like a meeting of the parents of the future newlyweds to discuss the celebration and clarify all the material and organizational issues. And, nevertheless, as before, they go to propose with bread and traditional speeches like: "You have goods, we have a merchant ..." etc. The girl must tie up the matchmakers with towels or scarves, this is already customary in some places.
Then comes the feast, during which the above-mentioned and pressing issues related to the future wedding are discussed. According to wedding traditions in Ukraine, the wedding itself invariably begins in the house of each of the young people. The groom gets dressed in his house with trepidation to see his bride in a wedding dress, which, according to signs, he should not see before the wedding. The groom always takes a wedding bouquet, a giltse, a ransom and bread with him on the road to pick up the bride.
If the distance from house to house is not great, the groom usually stomps on foot, to the sounds of music and the hooting of his relatives. If the walk is too far, then he goes in a wedding cortege - with a deafening roar of horns, entering the bride's yard. The Bride's ordeals, for example, dressing and doing her hair, are significantly extended in time.
Often, the future bride gets up early in the morning and, having given herself into the hands of a miraculous hairdresser, stylist and/or makeup artist, tries to sit on the "stool" overcoming pre-wedding excitement, the desire to jump like a bunny with pleasure, and in some ways to overcome the irresistible desire to take a nap for at least five more seconds. When the wedding hairstyle and wedding makeup are ready, the bride moves on to putting on her wedding dress.
Oh, how long she dreamed of this day, and how she wanted him to wear exactly this, uniquely stunning and regal dress.
