PRICES FOR CANON, NIKON, SIGMA, LEXAR, SANDISK AND APPLE IN “DUTY FREE” OF DUBAI AIRPORT

Flying through Dubai once again, I simply could not allow myself not to capture the prices of photographic equipment for my fellow photographers who are choosing a place to buy their stuff.

DUTY FREE at Dubai airport is simply huge, but I think the department for cameras and lenses could have been bigger. But the good news is that almost all the products a professional photographer needs are presented here.

Below is a series of photos where you can read the prices in both AED (local Dirhams) and USD. Some products have prices only in AED (1 USD = 3,673 AED).

My son and I walked through DUTY FREE. When the sellers saw a man with a stroller and a large camera on his neck, two or three people immediately started approaching to see what kind of miracle camera it was. When the eldest of them looked at my Canon 1Ds Mark III, he asked suspiciously: “Is this a Canon 1Ds Mark III?”, “Yes of course,” I answered.

He was delighted and called the entire department to see the top camera of the previous generation in person!
I can imagine what state 1 DX would have put them in!

Shopping for photography gear and electronics while traveling often feels like a gamble — sometimes you find real bargains, sometimes the difference is minimal compared to local stores. What makes duty-free shops stand out is the convenience: everything is in one place, tax-free, and ready to go before your flight. For photographers, the possibility of picking up a memory card, a spare lens, or even a new laptop on the way to the next assignment can be a lifesaver.

Still, it is worth remembering that prices in airport shops are not always the lowest worldwide. Before investing in expensive gear, it’s smart to compare with online offers or regional dealers. What you really gain here is time — the ability to buy on the spot when you need it most.

For me, exploring the shelves filled with Canon and Nikon bodies, Sigma lenses, and Apple devices was not just about price tags. It was also a reminder of how photography connects to travel itself — cameras, laptops, and storage are the tools that keep our journeys alive in images.

And once back on Phu Quoc Island, these tools continue their journey — helping a photographer capture weddings, family stories, and portraits against the tropical backdrop of Vietnam’s most beautiful beaches. Whether it’s professional equipment from Dubai or local inspiration from the island, everything comes together in the art of photography.
