Khem Beach and Sunset Town two-location photoshoot in Phu Quoc

Some photoshoots stay in one place. This one was planned as an afternoon route through two very different parts of South Phu Quoc, starting on Khem Beach and finishing among the architecture of Sunset Town.

The family was visiting from Portugal and staying at Premier Residences on Khem Beach. The session started beside their hotel at around 4:00 PM, they returned to their room for a quick outfit change, and then continued to Sunset Town by taxi. By around 6:30 PM, we had reached the final part of the route and were photographing around sunset.

The complete session took approximately 2.5 hours and resulted in 75 edited photographs. All images shown on this page were created during that same afternoon.

Khem Beach and Sunset Town are close enough to combine without spending a large part of the session on the road, but visually they have very little in common. That difference is the reason this route works so well.

The first part of the gallery has the open sea, pale sand, palms and tropical greenery of Khem Beach. For a family session, there is also space for the children to move naturally, walk along the water and interact without every photograph needing to be arranged.

Sunset Town changes the setting completely. The beach gives way to squares, fountains, stairs, stone columns and Mediterranean-inspired architecture. Combined with a change of clothes, the second part of the session looks almost like a separate shoot, while still belonging to the same afternoon.

For clients interested in photographing only this part of the island, there is a separate Khem Beach photoshoot guide. This session had a different purpose: to use Khem Beach as the first half of a route and then create a contrasting second series in Sunset Town.

The beach photography began at approximately 4:00 PM. Because the family was staying at Premier Residences, we could start on the section of Khem Beach beside their hotel rather than adding another journey before the session even began.

This also made the outfit change straightforward. Once the beach part was finished, the family returned to their room, changed clothes and was ready to continue to Sunset Town.

For another booking, the exact starting point may be different. Access to hotel grounds depends on where the clients are staying, so a family staying at another resort should not assume that private areas of Premier Residences or neighbouring hotels will be available. The meeting point is agreed in advance according to the hotel and the route.

There is no need to walk the entire length of Khem Beach either. A good two-location session is not about collecting as many backgrounds as possible. The beach section needs enough variety to stand on its own while leaving time for the second location.

After Khem Beach, the family changed at the hotel and travelled to Sunset Town by taxi. The ride took about 15 minutes that afternoon and cost approximately 60,000 to 80,000 VND. The clients paid the driver directly.

There was no need for a separate transfer service. For this route, a normal local taxi is enough, which keeps the logistics simple and avoids using valuable photography time on a long journey across the island.

The short distance between the two locations is one of the strengths of this combination. Moving to Sunset Town adds a completely new setting to the photographs, but the transfer itself remains a small part of the session.

The Sunset Town section used several areas rather than staying around one landmark. The route included La Festa Square, the King of the Sun Fountain, Dragon Stairs and the Roman Square area.

There is plenty to photograph in Sunset Town, but trying to stop at every recognisable landmark would make the session slower rather than better. The route works more naturally when a few places are selected according to the family, their clothes, the available light and how much time remains before sunset.

La Festa Square and the fountain provided more open architectural backgrounds. The stairs changed the perspective and gave us a different way to photograph the family together, while the columns around the Roman Square area created a more structured setting for the later portraits.

More detail about the area itself is available in the Sunset Town photography guide. In this session, Sunset Town was not treated as a sightseeing tour. It was simply the architectural second half of a route that had begun on the beach.

This session took place in early August and ran approximately from 4:00 PM until 6:30 PM. The final photographs were taken around sunset in Sunset Town.

That timing is an example rather than a fixed schedule. Sunset time changes during the year on Phu Quoc, and in the high season a similar route may need to begin roughly 15 minutes earlier if the plan is to finish near sunset. Weather and cloud cover can also affect the timing on a particular day.

The session does not need to be built around a rigid golden-hour formula. What matters is leaving enough time for the beach, the outfit change and the transfer while still arriving in Sunset Town with useful daylight.

The exact starting time is therefore agreed for the travel date rather than copied from a standard timetable.

Finding Khem Beach or Sunset Town on a map is easy. The more useful part is knowing how to combine them without turning a 2.5-hour session into a series of unnecessary walks, waits and transfers.

For this kind of route, the photographer needs to know where it makes sense to begin on the beach, how long to stay, when to leave for Sunset Town and which areas there can realistically be photographed before the light changes. A family with children may also need a different pace from a couple or a pre-wedding session.

This 2.5-hour booking produced 75 edited photographs from Khem Beach and Sunset Town. The finished images were delivered through a private online gallery with the usual turnaround of 1 to 2 days.

Every photograph in this article comes from the same session. The gallery therefore shows a realistic result from one afternoon rather than a portfolio assembled from different clients, seasons and locations.
