About MacBooks, Marketing, and the Strange Joys of Adulthood

An event in 2025 at a local electronics store. I bought a laptop there.

Basically, I'm tired of waiting for Apple to finally release a new 16-inch Pro with an M5 processor. I decided to buy a 1TB M4 and escape into total zen in the virtual world of Photoshop. Because they keep sending me high-resolution commercials for some Rolls-Royce for postproduction, and as always, urgently.

My old M1 laptop can't handle it, so I'm wasting two or three times as much time on thoughtful laptop work. Very thoughtful. )

I searched local stores for the model I needed, but as always, it's not that simple. The configuration I needed isn't available on the island. You can't order it; you only get what's in stock. I offered 100% prepayment, but no, you only get what's in stock.

Well, ok, I found the main store on the mainland. They said, "No problem, get your MacBook Pro 16" M4 1TB in two days, and here's a discount, just for fun." Great, I'm waiting. :)

The next day, they messaged Zalo saying the laptop had been delivered to the local store, ready to pick it up. Wow, fast, I like that kind of service.

I picked it up.

They said, "Can I take a photo as a souvenir?" Like, it's not every day that foreigners buy MacBook Pros here. I initially resisted, saying, "I'm scared of cameras, why would you need me?" Then they stupidly and cynically tricked me. They offered me a set of high-quality EarPods, which I was so excited I wanted to buy right there in the store.

They're a super rare item, and you'd have to be really lucky to find one in a store. They refused, saying they came with some expensive and fancy headphones. But here they're willing to give you the headphones as a gift, just so you can get a photo with a happy customer.

In short, I sold my unshaven, divine face for a tiny handful of black foam. And in that gift bag the girl is holding in the photo, there they are, the treasured ear pads for my headphones. And when I got home, I was just as happy with them as I was with a fancy new laptop.

That's how it is in life: sometimes the simplest things bring as much joy as the most precious ones because they are no less desirable.

Therefore, price is nothing; our desires are everything. )
